Space Farmers

SPIRULINA PRODUCTION ON AN INDUSTRIAL SCALE

Space Farmers optimizes the production of Spirulina in Europe. The company has created a Spirulina production farm capable of producing 30 tons / year, throughout the year, three times more than the traditional production. Space Farmers’ Spirulina production captures carbon, regenerates soil and produces biomass.

Six times less energy than electrolysis of water

Spirulina is a small blue-green algae, known for its high protein content and its effectiveness in preventing cardiovascular diseases. It is used in the pharmaceutical sector, in the food industry, in cosmetics and has been declared best food of the future by the World Health Organization (WHO). Mainly produced in tropical countries where the climate is favorable, Spirulina was previously produced in a marginal way in Europe and seasonally. Its European production represented between 50 and 70 tons per year. Space Farmers revolutionizes the production, since a single farm is able to produce 30 tons / year, and all year round!

The miracle is made possible by revolutionary hybrid photobioreactors (systems allowing the creation of microorganisms suspended in water) resulting from research at the University of Alicante. Currently Space Farmers is looking for customers or partners to launch its first demonstration farm and is developing a circular model so that the production of Spirulina has no impact on the environment and can contribute to the capture of CO2.
