So it\u2019s not surprising that this dynamic center at the crossroads of agriculture and industry is now home to the European LIFE COMPOLIVE project to develop a new generation of bio-composites based on olive tree pruning waste.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seven European partners behind this project, including the companies Caliplast and Plasturgia, experts in plastics processing in Loire-Atlantique, are working to offer ecological and sustainable materials to replace 100% fossil plastic, the production and incineration of which generate approximately 400 million tons of CO2 per year worldwide, to which must be added the more than 500 million tons of CO2 emitted each year in the region of Jaen by the open-air combustion of olive tree pruning waste. The first applications of the LIFE COMPOLIVE chain are the manufacture of parts for the automotive and home furnishing sectors, using a recycled polymer to which 30 to 40% of olive tree fibers are added.
