The challenge is daunting, but solutions do exist; notably the one developed by CANONICAL GREEN in Spain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through GREEN NAVIGATION, this start-up led by David G\u00f3mez-Ullate, professor-researcher in applied mathematics, is striving to put the power of data science, mathematical modelling and machine learning to help vessels determine the optimum route to take within the constraints of shipping companies. Based on an intelligent use of marine currents, waves and wind data, this sophisticated routing system has the ability to enable vessels to reduce their fuel consumption by 3 to 10%, equivalent to 4 million fewer vehicles on land roads.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"TA23_TEMOIGNAGE\"><div class=\"TA23_TCI_TEXTE\"><p>\u201c\u00a0<i>Everyone who drives a car knows this: the best route is not always the shortest. There are also highways and secondary roads on the ocean, but they are hard to see and constantly changing.
